Week 5: Balance

Positive

Negative
The Left OversBalance Play

In this weeks assignment we were required to make a balanced image using things that we found in the kitchen. I used a clothes pin, a cookie jar, a pastajar and a wine bottle. This is what I came up with. Hope you like it! :)

Week 4: Scale

In this weeks assignment we're tackling Scale. We were asked to design a collage that integrates both scale and or proportion. The collage also has to have the feel of surrealism. I wanted to create a Light in the Darkness theme, that was also subject to cracks and decay. Beauty in the dark. I wanted to tie in the elements by having subjects like a decaying room, some light bulbs, maybe a lantern. This is what I came up with. I feel that I accomplished the Light in the Darkness theme I was thriving for by using the lantern as well as the light bulbs in a dark room. For the purpose of scale, I wanted to use different sizes when it came to the light bulbs so I intergrated them butterfly wings to show that diference. I also used a female model to ad a little drama to the photograph. Then I used some photobrushes I had made from Gaphic Design 2 to create a decay look. Credit for stock as follows: Notice all stock found below, I got permission to use their stock as long as I gave a address link to their sites. Thanks for looking!

Week 3: Focal Points

Contrast: Color is often used to achieve emphasis by contrast. I chose this photo because of the dramatic play on contrast really pulls the eye to the main focal point: The Water Lotus. Photo retrieved from: www.fineartamerica.com

Isolation: Using a dark background with light on the focal point creates isolation. I chose this picture because it was dark, mysterious and most of all isolated. Photo retrieved from: www.fineartamerica.com

Placement: Many elements that point to one item, attention directed to achieve a focal point. I chose this photo because of the successful placement. Meaning the leaves climbing up the stairs has created many elements that point your attention to the main focal point. Photo retrieved from: www.fineartamerica.com
One Element: Visually overwhelming focal point. Strong visual emphasis that is usually found in magazines. I chose this photo for a couple of reasons. One I love this magazine, two the Gothic model is a very strong visual, and third she is just the perfect focal point. Photo retrieved from www.gothicbeauty.com
Absence of a Focal Point: Emphasize on the entire surface of the composition over any individual element. I chose this photo because of the continuation of an individual element. There is no real focal point to this photograph. www.fineartamerica.com
